Description

Page eleven of twelve. This page was fun since I got to draw a teapot in Minoan style - though it’s not tea in this one, it’s warm nectar (nectar was what the Greek gods usually drank, in case you don’t know). :D

Remember that Hades was arranging pebbles in labyrinth-like patterns in the beginning of the comic? Someone has taken the liberty to play with them while he was away. I saw this labyrinth inscribed on a coin from the city of Knossos (once the political center of the Minoan civilization) and though it just dated back to the 4th century BCE (while this comic takes place around at least 1400 BCE), I thought it was too good not to use. Actually, I think I later will change the first page so that this is the pattern that Hades was sitting with from the beginning and now someone has completed it.

The palace of Knossos with all its corridors, nooks and corners gave the impression of a labyrinth and claytablets written in Linear B sometimes refer to the great goddess as ”the Mistress of the Labyrinth”. I think that some people have interpreted the labyrinth as a symbol of the Underworld, but as I said before, no one can be really sure about Minoan religion.
