With Her

Description

When she arises from the king’s embrace, the flax rises up with her, the barley rises up with her. With her, the desert is filled with a glorious garden.

This is taken from a hymn about the hieros gamos between the Sumerian goddess Inanna and her husband Dumuzi, but it always makes me think of Hades and Persephone. After all, when Persephone returned from the Underworld, the land became fertile. And there are theories that suggest that the myth of Hades and Persephone maybe retains elements from earlier Mesopotamian myths.

Making this drawing was a bit like therapy for me, since I have felt a little depressed today. The publisher that I sent my comic Destroyer of Light to finally told me that they wouldn't publish it, but that they maybe could help me self-publish it in some way, and right now I don't know what I should do. If I should take their offer or go to one of the smaller publishers. But I guess that I'll at least wait and see what they'll propose. Anyway, drawing those two cute weirdos always cheers me up. :)

well, of course that's the origin of opium...
Definite connection between Innana/Dumuzi and Persephone/Hades. Persephone being originally much more powerful than she was considered later on. Power wanes and grows, gods and goddesses endure the ages and change their names but are ever the same.
Hope you and a publisher can come to an arrangement. If nothing else works you can always publish exclusively for Kindle through Amazon. It's a thing that's better than nothing.
